How can a cat get fleas?

Good day. I don’t even know how some of the pet owners look after their pets.

For example, one of my neighbors already three times in the last month came to visit and complained that her cat fleas again and again.

There are two options: either she does not try to help the animal, or uses ineffective methods. Want to find out how a cat can get fleas? How to quickly rid your pet of these pests? Then read all the details in the article below.

How to get fleas in a cat, cat

At all times, fleas were a real problem for our four-legged friends, poisoning the lives of them and their owners. Fleas in cats, as in dogs, are transmitted through contact with other relatives, but it happens that quite unexpectedly they themselves appear in a domestic cat from nowhere. Sometimes the owners cannot understand where the cat comes from fleas if, for example, it lives in isolation and does not contact other animals.

Important!
In fact, fleas in a domestic cat may appear for other reasons. They can be brought to your house on the clothes or shoes of your guests, whose animals suffer from this misfortune, or they can crawl into the apartment from the entrance themselves.

Therefore, even a domestic cat who never leaves the apartment can get these blood-sucking insects.

The main sign of the appearance of fleas can be considered frequent scratching and convulsive licking and nibbling of wool. Breeding fleas is a must; you should not watch how your animal suffers from their constant bites, causing severe itching. Treatment should be started as soon as possible, as fleas multiply rapidly. Remember that it will be more difficult to get rid of them in the future.

If this is the first time you have encountered such a problem and do not know what to do in such a situation and how to cure your beloved pet, contact your veterinarian or a veterinary pharmacy right away.

To cope with this scourge is very simple. In modern veterinary medicine, there are many drugs that can save a cat from fleas quickly and without harm to herself. The main thing is to choose an effective, and most convenient to use.

Flea Remedies

Currently, there are a lot of them, these are various drops, ointments, shampoos, sprays, and even a very effective flea collar exists.

Drops. A very convenient remedy are flea drops. They are convenient to use. It is enough to spread the hair and drip the required number of drops on the withers. Within 12 hours, fleas and their larvae die. Such drops for cats are perhaps the fastest therapy, but in the future, do not forget about antiplane prevention, because fleas could stay in the apartment.

Sprays. Flea spray is also a good prevention and fight against these annoying parasites. Also convenient to use. Just spray the animal’s hair until it is slightly moistened.

This flea remedy must be sprayed for greater effectiveness against the hair. The spray guarantees removal and further protection against fleas for 30-40 days. Frontlan and Bolfo Aerosol are considered popular.

Collars and shampoos. And of course, don't forget about flea-proof collars and shampoos. A special shampoo is applied to the head, neck, ears and after 5 minutes it is thoroughly washed off with warm water. Shampoos “Insectin” and “Bars” are considered recommended.

Advice!
The collar is also an effective prophylactic, but it does not provide 100% protection. If your cat at least occasionally happens outdoors or walks in the yard, it is just necessary to use an anti-flea shampoo and a collar.

In addition, be sure to apply a protective spray to the coat before walking. Following these simple rules, you will not have to rack your brains later on how to rid your cat of this scourge. Do not neglect these measures for the health of your pets.

I highly recommend that after you give your cat a flea medicine, treat your apartment. It is likely that not all fleas died, but some of them ran around the apartment and hid in the fleecy surfaces of furniture.

Therefore, it is still necessary to get rid of fleas in your home. For this, there are special tools designed not for animals, namely for the sanitary processing of furniture, bedding, carpets, etc. Such drugs provide the destruction of parasites in the environment for a long time.

How to get fleas from pets

Representatives of the cat family are considered one of the cleanest animals. They spend a lot of time caring for their beautiful fur coats, leading them to a decent look. The same attitude to their own toilet in domestic cats.

They very often “wash themselves”, cleansing their muzzle after eating, carefully caring for all available places on their body.

However, even constant attention to the state of his fur coat, even to a domestic cat who is not on the street, does not guarantee that she does not have fleas.

How to understand that a parasite has wound up

The attentive owner, when fleas appear in his pet, immediately notices changes in his behavior.

He becomes restless, often itches. Itching from bites prevents the cat from sleeping normally. The animal begins to itch, even in a dream, and when waking up, it again furiously scratches its disturbing places. Sometimes its body itches so hard that the cat bites itchy places and bleeding wounds appear on them.

Lack of normal sleep makes the cat nervous, her appetite disappears. With a lack of nutrition, the cat begins to lose weight quickly. In order to make sure that the cat has fleas, you should carefully examine its skin.

Attention!
When insects live on a cat for a long time, it is not difficult to notice them - with the hair spread out, scattering insects are visible in the area of the withers of the animal.

If changes in the cat’s behavior have appeared recently, then you should carefully examine the places on the cat that are especially loved by insects. This is the withers, on the neck under the muzzle, behind the ears and in the groin area, where due to the small amount of flea flea it is especially easy to notice

On the skin you can see the places of combs and deep scratches, often with suppuration. The wool in places of suppuration sticks together and gives off an unpleasant odor. This condition of the animal requires immediate treatment, otherwise the cat may die.

How to get fleas at home

Today in veterinary pharmacies you can buy a variety of drugs with which you can help your pet get rid of the uninvited residents living in his fur coat. Flea control products are available in various forms.

It can be special shampoos, drops, sprays and even medicines for injections. When visiting a pharmacy, it is imperative to purchase a flea repellent collar.

Together with the treatment of the animal, thorough cleaning of the house should be carried out, paying particular attention to the places where cats are most often found. If the cat has its own habitable house, then it should be thoroughly vacuumed, and then disinfected with special means available on sale in veterinary pharmacies.

Such actions should be carried out repeatedly, since fleas breed eggs. They lay them just in the places where cats are most often located.

Then they turn into larvae, pupate, and after some time adult fleas appear from them, again finding their habitat in the fluffy coat of a pet. In order to avoid re-infection of a cat already treated for fleas, it is necessary to constantly take care of the cleanliness of the apartment.

Important!
We should not forget about prevention. The cat needs to be treated with drugs several times until the fleas completely disappear.

When choosing a means to destroy fleas, you should listen to the recommendations of specialists working in veterinary pharmacies. It is necessary to use the drugs exactly according to the instructions, otherwise, instead of treatment, you can seriously poison your pet.

Folk remedies

It is possible that medications will save a cat from fleas much faster than funds donated by nature, but the recommended herbs and their decoctions will not harm the health of the pet.

If fleas appear in the cat and its kittens, then a rosemary decoction will help to remove them. It will take only four large spoons of dried rosemary, a glass of water and a saucepan. Half an hour of boiling and the resulting broth should be cooled and filtered.

Then the infusion is applied to the skin of the cat (you can use a comb, periodically wetting it in the composition). All that remains is to take a hair dryer and dry the cat's fur coat. After a few days, the procedure must be repeated.

You can use essential oils to get rid of fleas. Fleas do not like geraniums, eucalyptus, lavender.

It should be borne in mind that the oil can not be applied directly to the skin, as the cat may appear irritation, and even dermatitis. When using essential oils on a cat, it is necessary to put on a special collar for at least half an hour, preventing it from licking its skin.

Wormwood, which is used both in the form of oil and in dry and fresh form, helps well. Wormwood is also a preventive measure. Putting pieces of wormwood in a cat's house or basket, you can be sure that fleas will not multiply there.
Few people know that you can also get rid of fleas with the help of an infusion of lemon fruits.

Advice!
For this purpose, six lemons are cut into pieces, filled with water in an amount of half a liter, boiled for five minutes. The composition is infused for at least 12 hours, then the strained infusion is poured into a spray bottle, from which the cat's skin is sprayed.

True, the cats themselves do not like this smell too much, but it is better to smell like a lemon than to suffer from an invasion of fleas! Repeat treatment with lemon infusion is necessary monthly, even if the cat does not leave the apartment.

How to help a pregnant cat and little kittens

Despite the wide selection of commercially available flea medications, there are times when they should be used with great care. You should look in the annotations to them what contraindications to the use of this drug are indicated there.

Most often, the annotation indicates that the flea drug should not be used in the second half of a cat’s pregnancy and when she becomes a nursing mother.

You can not use the drug if the kitten is less than three months old, as well as for sick, weakened and depleted animals.

In such cases, other methods should be used to remove fleas:

  • If a pregnant cat has fleas, then you will have to be patient, with a thick comb and a bowl of hot soapy solution. Combing a cat's fur coat with a comb that is periodically rinsed in soapy water, you can get rid of unwanted tenants. The procedure will take a lot of time, but, unlike medicines, it is absolutely harmless to the animal.
  • If the cat has already nourished and feeds the kittens, then you can get rid of the fleas that appear by simply washing it with a special shampoo, and then thoroughly rinsing the fur coat with running water. When rinsing, special attention is paid to the nipples, so that the remnants of the shampoo on them do not harm the kittens. After water procedures, the cat should be combed thoroughly with a thick comb to remove the remaining fleas from the hair.

What are parasites dangerous?

Owners of cats who believe that small insects such as fleas cannot do much harm to their furry pet make an unforgivable mistake. Since fleas belong to the type of blood-sucking insects, they constantly feed on the expense of the animal, in the fur coat of which they found both shelter and daily food. Such residents can bring the cat to exhaustion.

Attention!
This condition can reach not only cat babies or pets of respectable age. It happens that a completely healthy cat, in whose skin fleas settled, turns into a miserable resemblance in a couple of months, with ribs bulging outward.

The fact is that fleas, together with blood, take away from the owner a cozy fur coat and vitamins. This leads to even more negative consequences. The appearance of fleas in a cat can bring another problem - these small insects are carriers of various infections.

They can also introduce some parasites into the bloodstream of the animal that contribute to the development of blood diseases. Sometimes a pet is allergic to flea bites, which can be extremely dangerous for his life.

How to get a flea out of a cat

Fleas are a common problem with cats that go outside, and once your pet has brought them home, they will have to work hard to get rid of them.

The most common type of flea in cats (like dogs) is the so-called “cat flea”, although this is not the only species that can “settle” on a cat, depending on local animals living, for example, in your garden, it can also pick up fleas from a hedgehog or a rabbit.

If your cat constantly lives indoors and does not go outside, the chances of catching fleas are reduced, but, nevertheless, you should check the animal’s hair from time to time for signs of infection.

An adult flea can live on a cat for several months, while a mature female lays up to 50 eggs per day. These eggs will fall off the cat’s hair along with flea excrement (excrement consists of undigested cat blood), which will be a kind of food for flea larvae when they hatch.

You will not get rid of fleas in a cat only thanks to regular cleaning and cleaning with a vacuum cleaner. Warm and fleecy carpets are a paradise for flea larvae, where they breed very quickly, therefore, in order to completely get rid of them, very careful and lengthy work is required.

Both purebred and ordinary cats are subject to fleas, and just because your cat has an impressive pedigree does not mean that it cannot have fleas! Sometimes it happens that you yourself can be dangerous if you had contact with a cat that had fleas. One or more fleas is easy to attach to you.

Important!
If you keep a cat of a dark color, or a cat with long hair, you can miss the moment of its infection with fleas, the first visible sign of which are black excrement elements located at the base of the coat, which are usually more noticeable on multi-colored cats.

However, if your cat becomes infected, then you will most likely notice that both you and the cat will itch.In humans, as a rule, flea bites primarily appear around the ankles. Therefore, when these signs appear, it is advisable to immediately check your cat for any pests.

You can do the check with a comb with small teeth, combing the wool with this should be done on a sheet of white paper. If you are lucky and you notice and catch a flea, then be sure to crush it properly, as they are quite tenacious creatures.

Fleas feed on the blood of cats, so in young and small individuals this can lead, if untreated, to severe anemia, and in the most extreme cases, even to death. Some cats are allergic to flea bites, and excessive scratching of these places can lead to various forms of skin diseases.

In addition to the discomfort caused by fleas for both animals and humans, fleas can also carry larvae like a tapeworm, which your cat can swallow when it licks itself, which will inevitably lead to intestinal upsets.

However, today there is a wide range of reliable treatments for fleas, however, none of them guarantee 100% effectiveness. Therefore, it is much better to take preventive measures before the cat picks up a flea, and if it goes outside, regular prevention will help reduce the risk of infection.

But in any case, you should be able to rid your pet of fleas, because no one can be completely protected. Be careful when using a flea collar, remember that it will not be effective if the pet has already become infected. In this case, you must first cure the animal, give it an anthelmintic drug and remove fleas, and only then put on the collar.

Moreover, such collars may not be elastic enough, and your cat will then suffocate. At one time, treatment against fleas consisted of a spray or powder, both of which the cat could lick and swallow (possibly due to this disease), but modern methods of treatment are much easier to use and more effective.

Advice!
Whatever treatment you choose, it is a good idea to take some advice from your veterinarian, and only then purchase a product that should be designed specifically for cats. Dog flea remedies typically contain the substance permethrin, which is toxic to cats, and, in some cases, can be fatal.

Resist the temptation, thinking that the remedy can be suitable for both dogs and cats, if you give your cat just a lower dose, be sure to carefully read the instructions for use if you bought the remedy somewhere other than your veterinarian.

Also, be sure to keep the packaging and instructions of the product, in case your cat has an adverse reaction, then you can show them to the veterinarian.

If you find fleas on your cat, and have already begun its treatment, you also need to wash all the things that she came in contact with at the highest possible temperature, be sure to walk along the furniture with carpets. Your veterinarian will also give you good advice on this.

You must be careful if you have a home aquarium, since flea control agents are generally very toxic to fish, so be careful when spraying in the immediate vicinity of your aquarium.

Whenever you are dealing with fleas, in the interest of your cat’s health, you should be especially vigilant to check your pet’s hair for any signs of fleas, especially if you intend to participate in any show or exhibition, since the veterinarian, at the slightest suspicion of fleas, will not allow your cat to participate.

How to get a flea out of a cat

Many pet lovers face the task of getting fleas from their beloved cat or cat. Just let the animal out into the street, and fleas immediately appear.Cats and dogs, coming into contact, pass them to each other. This is understandable and understandable, but it happens that the animal is isolated from its brethren, and fleas "torture" the animal.

This fact is explained simply. Guests who have their own pets could bring fleas to your home on clothing and shoes.

What are they threatening?

Fleas are blood-sucking insects, they have six limbs, while the rear ones are highly developed. Thanks to them, the insect can jump a long distance, move along the cover of the animal and hold in any position.

Attention!
The body of a flea is flattened on both sides due to which, it easily moves in the animal’s hair. And bites through the skin with a piercing-sucking mouth apparatus.

The presence of fleas in your pet, you determine the characteristic behavior. The animal becomes irritable, constantly scratches the places of bites, tries to bite insects from the wool. If a flea divorces a lot, then baldness and allergies are possible. But a caring owner, of course, will not allow such a phenomenon!

If you see that the animal behaves in this way, spread the hair and you will find the fleas themselves and their eggs.

It is necessary to get rid of fleas, they are especially dangerous for kittens. Adult animals can comb out their claws or choose their teeth, kittens are powerless in such a situation. If a lot of parasites are divorced, then the kitten can get anemia, anemia and even die.

Means against parasites

Means for neutralizing fleas are in stock today: drops, shampoos, ointments, sprays, collars. They are effective in controlling parasites.

Drops from fleas are quite simple to use and have a quick effect. The animal’s hair is spread apart at the withers and a special liquid is dripped. The effect of the drug is 12 hours.

During this time, all parasites die. During the use of the drug, one should remember the safety of the animal, so the liquid is applied so that the cat could not lick it. Follow the instructions carefully. The active substance in modern drops from fleas for cats is finopronil.

This is a new drug with low toxicity, but nevertheless for the animal they should not be available. Drops are not used for pregnant and lactating cats, kittens are contraindicated for up to two months.

Flea remedies made on the basis of luferonon are safer, this hormone is harmless for adult cats and even for newborn kittens. The drug affects insects and their eggs, destroys the chitinous cover and they die.

Important!
Flea spray is used to control parasites and as a preventive measure. The best are Bolfo Aerosol and Front Line. The spray is sprayed onto the animal’s hair. It is better to direct the flow against the coat. Using the spray, you can protect the animal from fleas for 40 days.

There are flea shampoos. It is applied to the neck, ears, head of the animal and washed off after five minutes. Shampoos "Bars" and "Insectin" well proved.

A good preventative against fleas is a collar, but it does not guarantee full protection. But for cats that go outside, it is a must.

Some important tips

Releasing the animal on the street, you need to protect it from possible infection with fleas, for this you can spray the coat or put on a collar. If you have not done anything to protect your pet, then after a walk, redeem it with a special flea shampoo.

If you do not want to treat the animal with chemicals, you can use tar soap. Animal hair should be soaped and washed off after 15 minutes.

When you have rid a cat of fleas, also process its toys, bedding and flat. Not all fleas can die, some can jump and linger in the pile of carpet or furniture. For this, special means are issued for the sanitary treatment of the apartment.

How and with what to bring fleas from a cat at home

Cat fleas are a very common problem that every owner may encounter, even if the pet never goes beyond the threshold of the apartment. Fighting fleas and disinfection of cats should be done as soon as the first signs of the appearance of these blood-sucking insects are noticed.

Advice!
When fleas appear in a cat, it is not difficult to recognize them, because the insects that appear cause the animal anxiety and discomfort.

How to find out and check if a cat has fleas:

  • the pet’s behavior changes - it often itches, bites off the hair and licks it. A cat can perform such actions at any inappropriate moment - during a meal, at the time of a game, during sleep;
  • if the cat has fleas, then any part of the body itches and itches, regardless of the thickness of the coat;
  • in places of more frequent calculations on the cat’s body, bald patches and skin lesions may form;
  • it is possible to determine the presence of fleas by the waste of their life - dark small grains remain near the wounds on the skin;
  • having an idea of what a flea looks like in a cat, it is easy to see it when you carefully examine the hair or comb it out;
  • if the cat has fleas, then on the wool or litter you can see the eggs - they have an oval shape, very small, white.

How does infection happen?

Fleas are small brown insects with a body flattened on the sides. This form allows them to easily slip through the cat's hair and get to the skin. These insects are very mobile.

They have no wings, but thanks to the long hind legs, adults are able to jump long distances. The most common cause of infection is jumping from a sick cat to a healthy one. Thus, animals living in nurseries or shelters, or having the opportunity to walk on the street, become infected.

Fleas can also appear in a pet that lives in a limited area, does not walk and does not communicate with relatives. To understand where fleas from a domestic cat come from, you need to know that these blood-sucking insects are prone to rapid breeding, which has some features.

How do fleas breed in cats:

  • the female lays eggs on the animal’s hair, which have an elongated oval shape and are painted white;
  • the eggs do not attach to the coat and after a while they crumble to the floor, to the litter, to the ground. Eggs can be in any place where the infected cat was;
  • larvae hatch from the eggs, which after a while form a chrysalis, where a flea forms. She can be in the cocoon for a very long time and will leave it only when she feels that there is a cat nearby;
  • how quickly fleas breed depends on air temperature and its humidity.

Flea eggs can be brought home on shoes or clothes. In favorable apartment conditions, they will quickly go through all stages of development from the appearance of the larva to the maturation of an adult flea and its attack on a pet.

Why are fleas dangerous?

The treatment of fleas in domestic cats is important to start as early as possible - immediately, as the first symptoms appeared. In addition, the blood-sucking insects bite painfully, they harm the entire body:

  1. large bald patches form on the body;
  2. at the site of the calculations there are dermatitis and eczema;
  3. some feline worms are transmitted through fleas;
  4. fleas are carriers of infectious diseases;
  5. if measures have not been taken against fleas in cats for a long time, then the pet may have nerve disorders.

Very dangerous fleas for a kitten. With a large accumulation of insects on a small body, the result of their harmful activity can be anemia, which can not always be cured.

Ways to remove fleas

There are many recommendations on how to get a cat out of fleas, and all of them are quite effective. Which flea remedy to apply in each case depends on several factors:

  • pet age
  • a pregnant cat or not, whether it feeds kittens;
  • the degree of damage to the skin and wool;
  • the presence of concomitant diseases;
  • how long has the cat been infected.

If the pet does not have concomitant diseases, then you can treat a cat from fleas yourself.

Attention!
The veterinarian should be consulted when it is not clear how to remove fleas in a cat, what remedy to use if she has severely fallen hair, develops dermatitis or worsens.

What are the remedies for fleas for cats:

  • sprays and aerosols;
  • shampoos;
  • drops;
  • collars;
  • powders;
  • tablets;
  • injections
  • folk remedies.

How to remove fleas from a cat at home and prevent re-infection depends on the specific application of the chosen product.

Sprays and Aerosols. Spray is a fairly effective remedy for fleas in cats. The wool should be treated abundantly, dividing it into partings, so that the product gets on the skin. It acts quickly, with its help it is possible to remove fleas in kittens and pregnant cats. When spraying or spraying, pay attention to the following:

  • the sprays with which we remove blood-sucking insects in dogs cannot be used to treat cats because of the content of some substances harmful to cats in them;
  • flea preparations for cats in the form of an aerosol or spray should be used carefully so that the active substance does not enter the pet’s mouth or respiratory tract;
  • treating lactating cats from fleas with a spray is not recommended, because kittens can be poisoned during feeding;
  • a flea remedy for treating cat hair and removing them from the litter - these are different drugs and they must be used strictly for their intended purpose;
  • Before applying the spray, you must read the instructions and adhere to the rules. In some cases, after treatment, it is necessary to wash off the preparation from the wool, for which it is necessary to bathe the pet.

Shampoos. A good and gentle flea remedy for cats is shampoo. It is most effective for kittens and for pets that do not go outside the apartment.

This tool does not have a long action, therefore, to avoid re-infection, it is necessary to treat all the rooms where the pet is.

How can a cat get fleas at home using shampoo:

  1. Before bathing, the pet must be combed thoroughly;
  2. moisten the coat with plenty of warm water and apply a small amount of shampoo;
  3. when soaping, do not skip areas such as the tail, the tips of the paws, and the stomach;
  4. after soaping, the foam does not need to be washed off immediately, it should work for 2-3 minutes;
  5. rinse with plenty of water;
  6. Dry the cat, if necessary, blow dry the hair with a hairdryer;
  7. When bathing a cat, care must be taken to prevent shampoo and water from getting into your ears.

Shampoo is the best flea remedy for cats as a preventative measure. If a pet easily tolerates water procedures, then an anti-flea shampoo can be used each time. You should know that for long-haired and short-haired breeds produce different types of shampoos.

Important!
Drops. The most effective remedy for both fleas and ticks for cats is drops. This is one of the effective remedies against lice, mosquitoes and other blood-sucking insects. They are applied to the withers and upper back along the spine. Drops have a prolonged effect and are recommended for pets constantly walking in the yard.

How to get rid of fleas in a cat with drops:

  • carefully study the instructions and calculate the dosage of the drug based on the weight of the animal;
  • three days before applying the drops and three days after carrying out water procedures is not recommended;
  • drops are applied along the spine to the lower part of the head, neck and upper back (these are places that the cat cannot reach and lick the drug);
  • drops should be applied directly to the skin, moving the coat away;
  • during the summer season, drops are used repeatedly, with the interval indicated in the annotation to the medicine.

Collars. Collars have a long-lasting effect, but not all cats get used to them. If for some pets the collar can become an inconspicuous accessory from the first day, then others have to be taught and distracted for a long time at the moment when they are trying to remove the collar.

This product is not very suitable for cats with very long and thick hair, because after prolonged wearing, tassels form on the neck. For such cats, it is better to alternate the collar with other means or wear it only for walking.

Dusting powder. Powders as a medicine for fleas for cats are very rarely used, but they are convenient at the moment when we get rid of fleas and their larvae in the habitats of cats. Powder can be sprinkled on the floor of the apartment, furniture, carpets and bedding for animals.

After some time, the powder is collected with a vacuum cleaner, a brush or sweep with a broom and wet cleaning is carried out. It is advisable to use very warm, almost hot water for disinfecting the room. Work is carried out with gloves.

Pills and injections. Consult a veterinarian about pills and flea injections. They are very effective and are used in cases where the cat is badly infected, there are large foci of damage to the coat and skin, or rapid destruction of blood-sucking insects due to the pet’s health condition is required.

These agents have many contraindications, it is necessary to observe the exact dosage and provide for possible complications. For pregnant and lactating cats, small kittens, pills and flea injections are not recommended.

Folk remedies

It is possible to rid a cat of fleas using folk remedies if the lesion is insignificant. The advantage of these tools is the absence of toxic effects on the body, the ability to cook them with your own hands and effectiveness as a preventive measure.

Advice!
A decoction of herbs is used for processing wool and spraying cat litter. A folk remedy used for fleas in cats should have a strong pungent odor. To do this, herbs such as wormwood and mint, chamomile and lavender, geranium and tansy are suitable. You can use one of these herbs, or you can mix them at your discretion.

What to do for the preparation of a universal remedy and how to use it:

  • 2 tablespoons of grass is poured with cold water and set on fire;
  • after boiling, the fire is reduced, the mixture is kept at a slow boil for 20-30 minutes;
  • after cooling, the solution is filtered and poured into a spray bottle;
  • the fur of the cat is spread apart and sprayed so that the solution liberally moistens the skin;
  • allow to dry naturally, but at the same time the room should be warm in order to exclude colds;
  • the mattress on which the pet sleeps is sprayed with the same solution and allowed to dry well.

Instead of the usual filler for a mattress, you can use pine sawdust or dried needles. You can add dried garlic there. Before preparing such a fragrant stove bench, you should check whether the pet will sleep in such a smelling place.

How to avoid re-infection

A repeated flea attack on a cat can be avoided only if the means for fighting are periodically used as a prophylaxis, and the room is cleaned regularly.

When walking a cat, you must always wear a collar, apply drops or spray. When bathing a pet, ordinary shampoo is recommended to alternate with anti-flea.

In the room it is necessary to periodically carry out wet cleaning, using hot water for this. You also need to wash combs, brushes and toys. Once a month, it is advisable to treat upholstered furniture and carpets in the house with aerosol preparations for fleas and ticks.

Each owner of a cat must observe personal hygiene: wash his hands, put shoes and street clothes in a closet, especially if there was communication with other animals outside the house.

We get rid of fleas using improvised means

Fleas are ectoparasites of domestic animals. With a relatively small number of them, you may not even find fleas on the animal, but at the same time they will bite it, often causing itching.

Attention!
If the animal lives “in no way” in the apartment, this is not a guarantee that the animal does not have fleas.

Usually, these insects can be carried on shoes by the owners without even knowing about it. Therefore, at the slightest suspicion of allergic reactions in an animal, the first thing that is excluded is the possibility of fleas in the room.

How to determine the presence of parasites

Most often, if there is a flea problem in the room where the animal is kept, their feces are revealed in the hair of the animals. This happens with a regular A4 sheet dipped under water. In this case, flea feces look like blurry spots of brown color.

Sometimes an allergic reaction in the form of itching in cats is observed even after a bite of a single flea. This means that fleas cannot be detected: neither on the animal, nor in the environment, this does not exclude the fact of a bite and an allergic reaction to it.

We derive folk remedies

In the warm season, it is recommended to treat cats once a month, and in cold weather in the absence of allergic reactions, including pruritus, it can be treated a little less often.

In this case, one must not forget: the absence of fleas on the body of an animal does not mean that they are completely absent.

You can try to get rid of fleas with the help of folk remedies, but in practice it has been proved that such methods can only scare them away, and not fight the problem itself. Therefore, before rubbing a cat with garlic, or daily using torture in the form of combing fleas, you need to understand how fleas do live and whether such means make sense.

A scaring smell is of no use simply because the fleas remain alive. And they may well choose a more appetizing victim than the one that smelled of garlic.

And who is this more appetizing victim? The owner of a cat smelling like garlic. After all, a flea does not need much - it drank blood and continue to multiply. And a person is suitable for this purpose in no way worse, or maybe better than an animal.

Important!
Another reason why you should abandon the idea of getting rid of fleas on your own, and even more so with improvised means, is that flea drugs have an insecticidal effect.

And insecticides are known to be poison. And if in the minimum dosage it is poison for an insect, then in an exaggerated dose it is poison for humans. Therefore, before using such drugs, you need to make sure that the instructions for use are attached to the drug.

In case of improper use of the drug, it can harm not only the animal, but also to himself. Therefore, such a procedure is best entrusted to a professional. Often when they are treated with folk remedies, the cat continues to itch actively. This means that the treatment was not beneficial.

In fact, no folk remedies will give the desired result - they can only scare away the fleas, but not bring them out and help get rid of them.

Flea drops

The appearance of fleas in a cat is a fairly common problem. Therefore, in any veterinary store there are drops that will help get rid of fleas in cats

There is only one reliable way to get rid of fleas - treat the animal several times in a row once every 3 months with drops of fleas (based on fipronil, for example), and at the same time treat the room from parasites.

The processing of the premises is carried out by any preparations that are intended for this (i.e., insecticidal preparations for processing wood, furniture, etc.).

Home processing

To treat a cat from fleas, you can contact your veterinarian. He will tell in detail and clearly show how this is done. But if this is not possible, you can handle the cat yourself at home.

To do this, you need to purchase a pipette from the pet store (the container that contains the substance looks like a pipette, and the drug drips from it drop by drop). The cost of such a pipette varies depending on the manufacturer, but the essence is the same.

Advice!
Most often, drugs based on the active substance fipronil are used. Drops are applied with a pipette to the cat's body, where it will not be able to lick.

In order that the animal does not lick and is not poisoned with an insecticidal substance, the place of processing is chosen inaccessible for licking. This is the withers, a place above the shoulder blades. Dripping the drug is not on the coat, but without fail on the skin. That is, before dripping, you need to spread the wool. If you need to apply the entire pipette, you need to drop by drop at different points, limited to the area of the withers.

Small kittens may not need the entire volume of the pipette. In order not to cause an overdose, you should carefully read the instructions, and it is best to consult a doctor who will tell you exactly what is needed for an animal of this age and such weight.

The drug must be applied precisely to the skin due to the fact that it acts systemically - it is absorbed into the skin, into the bloodstream, and spreads over the entire body area, causing death of insects in case of a bite.

That is why if you go too far with the volume or frequency of treatments, you can cause poisoning in the animal.

Unfortunately, fleas tend to become addictive and develop resistance to insecticides, so the active substance, which a couple of years ago showed high efficiency, can now work much weaker than expected.

Although it is likely that due to an increase in average temperature in the summer, fleas become more aggressive and their number increases significantly. And as a result, fleas are found even in treated animals.

If the effectiveness of the drops is not satisfactory, you can try different manufacturers of insecticidal drops for cats, perhaps more expensive drops will work better, and maybe cheaper.

Aids

As an adjuvant, you can use shampoos for flea cats, they help to kill specifically those fleas that are on the animal. That is, if one flea ran on a cat, bathing will not be advisable, but will only be unnecessary stress for the animal.

Attention!
Cats, unlike dogs, for the most part do not tolerate water procedures, and stress and likely hypothermia after bathing can cause an animal's illness. Therefore, swimming from fleas is appropriate and justified only if there are really many parasites on the animal.

But you need to remember that the process of combating fleas should not be limited to swimming. If the animal has access to the street, it is likely to have fleas almost 100%. These animals can combine two means of protection - drops and flea collars.

The collars also act by being absorbed into the systemic circulation, therefore they should not hang out as a decoration, they should be fixed so that they come into contact with the skin, but, of course, do not strangle the animal.

The collar, according to the instructions, works longer than drops - about 2-3 months, but do not give up drops in favor of the collar. Still, the most effective remedy today is drops. And their joint use with a collar can give a better result.

Do not experiment and try to bring fleas folk remedies. None of them is designed to destroy parasites, only to scare them away with strong odors, while others can also be dangerous to the health of the pet.

In any case, it’s much easier to drop a drug at the withers of a cat and forget about it than to walk and smell a “garlic” cat processed for one of the tips on the net for several days.
